Aerosol Penetration Through Tubes

Aerosols are always being passed through tubes. It could be an industrial process, a laboratory situation or passage through, or on the way to an aerosol sampler. It is an area of Aerosol Science where experienced practitioners frequently go wrong. Why? The relationships are complex and understanding comes with work and experience. Nevertheless, there are spreadsheets which simplify the process. The finest is the one devised by Dr. Paul Baron, intended to be used with the major texts on Aerosol Science.^1,2 The spreadsheet is freely available and may be downloaded from the BGI web site. There are several equations tailored for differing situations. They are found in the spreadsheet beginning at line 750. The best procedure is to refer to the appropriate text listed at the beginning of the equation. However, for those needing a very quick answer one particular equation has been presented in a form modified for ease of use.
